In the past, I have scoffed at, made fun of and even justified my reasons for not dieting. It never appealed to me. I never thought it was for me. But after trying all kinds of things, the weight that I had put on during my second pregnancy was just not coming off. I didn’t have the time to exercise (I honestly don’t) for the amount of time it would have taken me to start shedding pounds. Moreover, I felt, more than exercise, I needed to control what I put in my mouth. Being a hard core foodie and an amateur food blogger makes this part all the more difficult. I was not able to find the right balance between cooking and controlled eating. [Read on…]
Now if you have even been to Jodhpur, you would have (like at a temple) been asked to make a stop and bow your head at Mishrilals (read grab a glass). You know, for his world-famous Makhaniya Lassi. Ya, I bet you still haven’t forgotten its taste. It is one of those things that you can never forget, no matter how much time has passed by. Who doesn’t love a cooling and refreshing Lassi? But Mishrilal’s is not just any Lassi. It is a very special, incredibly luscious Makhaniya Lassi. I last had it a decade ago and I still think about it from time to time. [Read on…]
Have I told you that Spring is my absolute favorite time of the year? There is nothing that I don’t love about it. Beautiful blooms, sunny 70’s, happy birds, bouncing children, flying Frisbees, longer days, biking, berry picking, ice-creams and smoothie marathons. yeah, I love Spring. But my heart goes out to those who can’t enjoy it due to pollen allergies. Such a beautiful time of the year goes either staying indoors in hibernation or masking oneself (in vain) hoping those small, nasty, pesky little pollens would stay out of our bodies. Well, the sad news is that pollens didn’t get the memo. No one told them about the ‘Live and let Live’ Rule. [Read on…]
Healthy food and healthy drinks are not just the ‘in-thing’ these days but also the absolute necessity of our times. It is not a surprise then that Green tea tops that list of healthy drinks. Its benefits are immense and noteworthy. Those of us who love green tea for its goodness, know what all amazing things it does like the back of our hand. That it’s loaded with antioxidants, supports weight loss, protects against certain cancers, tooth decay, Alzheimer’s, high cholesterol, high blood pressure……..ya let’s just say this stuff is good for us. So much pressure on poor green tea, I tell you, for having to be a five-star performer all the time. [Read on…]
The nineties were all about “Tann ki Shakti, Mann ki Shakti – Bournvita!” and “I am a Complan boy, I am a Complan girl”. It was such a ‘in-thing’ to add your choice of poison to milk before drinking it that I got sucked right into it! There wasn’t and still isn’t a day when I can have a glass of plain white good old milk. I know that’s bad. So while in the mornings it was Bournvita, in the evenings it was cold coffee. Oh, I am making it worse, ain’t I? And when moms have to make a choice between their kids having milk with additives or no milk at all, they go with the obvious choice. [Read on…]
Doodh hai wonderful, ‘p’ sakte hai, roj glassful doodh doodh doodh doodh.
(Milk is wonderful, everyday, we can have a glassful)
Doodh hai mast in every season, piyo doodh for healthy reason.
(Milk is FAB in every season, drink milk for healthy reason)
Rahoge fir Fit and Fine, jiyoge past ninety-nine!
(You will stay Fit and Fine, you will go past ninety-nine!)
In spite of all the backlash milk receives due to various reasons in these times, I believe these lines hold true in every sense even 20 years later. But the truth of the matter is “I cannot drink plain Milk”. There, I said it! If you wanna judge me, go right ahead. If you think, I am a grown-up child, fine by me. May be I am, may be I am not. But it is the plain, honest-to-goodness truth. [Read on…]
What’s with men and grocery lists? What is so difficult about looking into a list and picking a few fruits and vegetables as per the quantity mentioned? It would be a record if I get exact things in the exact quantity that I want, one day. Now to be fair, I do ask my husband to pick some never-heard-before stuff but in my defense, I always text him a picture of what it looks like. But I still have to be next to my phone the entire time he is out. The other day, [Read on…]
I have started to involve my son into minor cooking activities because when I didn’t, he pulled a stunt that would have been hilarious if someone else’s kid did it but was an absolute nightmare when my own did it. The other day, he opened my container of flour and poured water in it. 😯 If that wasn’t bad enough, he jumped into it and started to knead it…..with his feet. After being shocked, speechless and very angry with him, I asked him why he did that? [Read on…]
What coffee is to America, tea is to India. We are a tea obsessed nation. We need tea for all occasions and no occasions. Headache – “Gotta have” tea.
No headache – “Just like that” tea.
If you have guests over -“What will u have?” tea.
Happy occasion -“Let’s celebrate” tea.
Sad occasion -“Need to uplift my mood” tea.
Rainy season – “What will I have with my pakoras/fritters?” tea. [Read on…]
